Joseph J. Meyers Jr.

Joseph J. Meyers Jr., 63, died on September 5, 2026. Born on August 16, 1963, in Queens, New York, Joe was the son of the late Joseph J. Sr. and Beverly Meyers. He was a lifelong area resident of Toms River, New Jersey, and a graduate of Toms River North HS, Class of 1981.

For the past 44 years, Joe dedicated an extraordinary portion of his life serving Ocean County. He rose to serve as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, a position carrying responsibility for the care and operation of facilities throughout the county. Joe took tremendous pride in his work and in the people he worked alongside, earning respect through steady dependability, a tireless work ethic, and a clear commitment to doing the job right. Over more than four decades of public service, he became far more than a familiar face within Ocean County government—he was a trusted colleague and leader whose knowledge and experience will be remembered, and whose work will remain a quiet testament to a life of service.

Joe is survived by his two children, whom he loved more than anything, Samantha Meyers (Tito) and Joseph Meyers (Kobe); his beloved life partner, Jennifer Maier, with whom he shared his life; and by Jennifer’s parents, Raymond and Eileen Maier, who were an important part of his family. Joe is also survived by his children’s mother, Elizabeth Meyers; his three sisters, Carol Lane and her husband, Jim; Corrine Butler and her husband, Allen; and Mary Kozak and her husband, John; and his nieces and nephews, Morgan, John, Erica, Matthew, Kyle, and Riley. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, coworkers, and the many people who came to know him throughout his decades of service.

In his personal life, Joe found joy in playing golf, traveling to the Caribbean, and following his favorite teams—especially the Dallas Cowboys and NY Yankees. He also treasured his time at home, finding joy in the simple, familiar moments that so often mean the most.

Above all else, Joe’s greatest legacy is the family and loved ones he leaves behind. His life was marked by devotion—to his family, to his work, and to the community he served for 44 years. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, he will be remembered as a beloved presence whose dedication and steady care touched many lives. Joe will be remembered with love, gratitude, and respect, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 4-9 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River. A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 10, 2026, 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, Toms River. Cremation will be private.
