
Joyce Lois Shann, 80, of Naples, FL passed away on Wednesday July 15th, 2015 in Toms River, NJ with family and loved ones nearby. Joyce was born January 30, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA, to Roy and Edna Whitaker. She graduated from Nutley High School, earned her BA from Fairleigh Dickenson University and later received a Masters Degree in Education. She worked as a teacher for the Hopatcong Board of Education for over 30 years and was respected and loved by her students and co-workers. Joyce was known as a "Modern Day Woman" who brought incredible joy and adventure into the life of those around her. She travelled extensively throughout the world, and enjoyed reading, dancing, tennis, gardening, and nature conservancy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother leaving behind her adoring husband Jesse Gallante of Naples, FL. She is survived by children Cheryl Cross and James Sampson of Naples, FL, Gary Kessel and wife Debra of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Douglas Kessel and Mary Ann DiAnna of Toms River, NJ; grandchildren Richard Brauer and wife Kelly, Jaime Savarino and husband Christopher, Gregory Kessel and wife Jaclyn, Brielle Kessel, Krista Kessel, Ryan Kessel and Courtney Guillot, Mariella DiSturco, and Michael DiSturco; great grandchildren Benjamin, Abigail, Peyton and Coltyn, ex-husband Albert Kessel and wife Mary Lou of Kenvil, NJ. Visitation will be Saturday July 25th, 2015 from 2-5pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. A funeral service will be offered at 4:00 PM during visitation.
