Kay was born in Elizabeth, NJ., and lived in Linden until she married and moved to Cliffwood Beach where she raised her children. She then retired to Toms River for 25 years before moving to Colts Neck in 2015.
Kay was a bright light. In addition to her spark, she had spunk. She knew how to make you laugh when you really needed it, and when she really needed something she would let you know (in her older years). True to her roots, she affectionately became known as “the fighting Irish.” She really was loved by everyone.
Once her children were grown, she held esteemed positions at Amerada Hess and the Social Security Administration. She made many lasting friendships and was well respected for her hard work and dedication.
Kay enjoyed exercising and keeping fit her entire life. Additionally she loved to read, bake, and crochet. Her guilty pleasures were watching many game shows (especially Wheel of Fortune) and keeping up to date with pop culture. Most importantly Kay enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandkids were her world and they will miss her deeply.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Donald and her sons Donald, Thomas and Jeffrey, and her grandson Vincent. She is survived by four children; Vincent Amatel and his wife Edna, Cynthia Amatel, Nancy Walton and her husband Steve, and Joseph Amatel. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren; Marissa (Joseph), Robert "RJ" (Becca) and Christopher.
Cremation is private.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated this summer in honor of her 100th birthday, her birthday was always a big ordeal!
The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Care One in Wall and Wellington Estates in Spring Lake for their tremendous care and comfort they provided Kay up until her last days.
