

Lena was born to parents Jacob Bernstein and Bertha Virginia Lowe on February 12, 1922. She grew up in New York City and attended Straubenmuller Textile High School. She married Viktor N. Nilsen of Larvik, Norway April 26, 1944. He served at Travers Island, NY as a member of the Norwegian Navy Notraships Fleet’s Shooters during World War II. The couple had three children and Lena later worked at the New York Department of Motor Vehicles until retirement.
She is predeceased by her husband Viktor N. Nilsen Sr. and son Viktor N. Nilsen Jr. of Norridgewock, ME; and siblings Dorothy V. Taylor, Herman C. Andrews, Josephine V. Pellettieri, and Joan M. Olsen.
Lena is lovingly remembered by her son Anders C. Nilsen of Toms River, NJ; her daughter Barbara J. DiGregorio (Fred) of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter in-law Ruth Nilsen of Norridgewock, ME; her granddaughters Victoria Nilsen of Providence Forge, VA, Susan Nilsen of Williamsburg, VA, Krysti Dabrowski (Patrick) of Maumelle, AR; her grandsons Frederick DiGregorio (Halley), Philip DiGregorio, Louis J. DiGregorio (Kristina), and Victor DiGregorio all of Myrtle Beach, SC; her great grandchildren Kelsey Strang (Evan), Jonathan Dabrowski, Emily DiGregorio, Kaitlyn Dabrowski, Alana DiGregorio, Joseph DiGregorio, Victoria DiGregorio, Anthony DiGregorio, and Andrew DiGregorio; and her nieces and nephews Charles Andrews, Rita Strumph, Timothy Pellittieri, and Cynthia Horn.
