
Maria R. Tobie, 87, of Toms River, NJ passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in her home. Maria was born in Belleville, NJ, March 18, 1936, where she resided with her parents Carmine and Mary Rossi along with her five siblings. She later married her husband Richard E. Tobie on June 27, 1959. Maria and Richard lived in Bloomfield, NJ for 57 years where they raised their two children Richard J. Tobie and JoMarie Sacchinelli until moving to Toms River, NJ in January 2020.
Maria received her teaching degree from Kean College in 1958 and was an educator for 30 years in Belleville and Bloomfield. Her final teaching position, before retiring in 1996, was first grade for 23 years at Demarest Grammar School in Bloomfield, NJ. During her tenure Maria obtained her master’s degree in early child development at Kean College in 1983. Maria also received special recognition from Governor Christie Whitman for her excellence in education in 1994.
Maria was an adventurous person and loved to travel to many destinations around the world alongside her loving husband, family and friends. Her second love was her shore house in South Seaside Park, NJ where she spent quality time during the summer with her family and friends. Maria witnessed countless beautiful sunrises and sunsets come and go along the shoreline. Now, we can see Maria's beauty rise and set with the sun in the sky every time we visit the shore, knowing that she will always be there to watch over us.
Those who knew Maria knew that she was an extraordinary cook and baker. When you think of her you think back to the taste of her homemade raviolis and Italian cookies which she served up every holiday when she hosted the gatherings for family and friends. She knew how to make people’s stomachs and hearts fill with joy and will continue to fulfill her legacy within our memories.
Maria is survived by her loving husband Richard E. Tobie. She is also survived by her two children Richard J. Tobie and JoMarie Sacchinelli three grandchildren LT Brian Tobie (US Navy) , 2LT Nicole Sacchinelli (US Army), Alexandra Sacchinelli and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 16, 2024 12:00 pm at St. Catharine of Siena RC Church, Seaside Park with interment to follow to Brig. Gen.Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
