

Marinus Roy Flayter, 85, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2025, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey. Born on September 18, 1939, Roy was a cherished figure among his family and friends, embodying a spirit of warmth and dedication that touched all aspects of his life.
Roy proudly served in the Air Force National Guard Reserves and was stationed in Chaumont, France, during the critical times of the Berlin Wall Crisis. His commitment to service was a significant chapter in his life, reflecting his dedication and love for his country.
In his professional life, Roy was a renowned salesman across various industries, including furniture, tools, rental equipment, and construction equipment. His charisma and genuine interest in people won him not only business but lifelong friendships with his customers.
Roy's passions extended beyond his professional and military service. A devoted sports enthusiast, he was an ardent supporter of the New York Jets and the New York Rangers. His love for these teams became a family tradition, fostering spirited discussions with his children and friends. Beyond sports, Roy's greatest devotion was to his family. He married his beloved wife, Marion (Spiegel), and together they navigated life's adventures for 63 years. The couple cherished their time cruising and actively participated in their children and grandchildren's lives— from zoo visits, the circus, movies, and concerts, to proudly attending his grandchildren's theatre performances, showcasing his role as a loving, involved patriarch.
He enjoyed cooking, having many specialties, including his amazing Dutch meatloaf.
Roy is survived by his wife, Marion; daughter, Jodi Heitmann and her husband, Ronald; son, Mark Flayter and his wife, Jennifer; and grandchildren, Maria, Andrew, and Richard. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret (Reiniers) Flayter; brother, Richard Flayter; and an infant daughter.
Roy's life will be honored through a private funeral service. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation at his home at 412 Jamaica Boulevard, Toms River, NJ, on Wednesday and Thursday, January 8 and 9, from 2 pm - 8 pm, and Friday, January 10, from 12 pm - 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Roy may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, an organization he deeply supported. Roy's legacy of kindness, community involvement, and familial devotion will be remembered by all who knew him.
