It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn the passing at her home of Mary Jane Jones.
Born in Marion, VA, she lived in Staten Island, NY prior to moving to Toms River. While on Staten Island, she was a long time active member of the Castleton Hill Moravian Church where she served as a Sacristan and managed the Cradle Roll. She was a member of Beacon Light Chapter of the Eastern Star, a member of the Cedarettes and Rangerettes and for 21 years worked at the former U.S. Public Health Service Hospital where she maintained an office for the NMU Pension and Welfare Plan to care for the needs of the unlicensed deep-sea American seamen confined there. She retired in December 1981 and moved to Silver Ridge Park Westerly in July 1982.
Mary and the “Love of her Life” husband loved to travel and they had many wonderful adventures traveling coast to coast and border to border in the United States, Hawaii and Canada.
Mary Jane attended the Pinelands Reformed Church and was an active member of the former Silver Ridge Park Westerly Woman’s Club, the former Garden Club and Singles Club, the Bowling Club, Golf Club, Bocce Club, Line Dancing Club and a member and secretary of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary to Post #8352.
She blessed her family with boundless love and sacrifices, particularly her husband whom she cared for during his prolonged illness. Mary Jane was a gift from Heaven to mankind. Loving, kind, understanding and always willing to help with an encouraging word. She was loved by all who knew her. She was the meaning of love and will be deeply missed.
Her beloved husband, Robert Sturr Jones, predeceased her in 1997. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Bob and Skeets and loving sister Barbara.
Among those who remain to cherish her memory are her daughter Patricia Jones of Staten Island, a son, Robert Jones of Montgomery, NY, a grandson, Randall Jones and his wife Allison of Fryeburg, ME, a granddaughter, Amy Bradshaw and her husband Jory of Waldon, NY and great-grandchildren Wylder and Mabel Jones and Maggie Jane Bradshaw and nine nieces and nephews.
The family of Mary Jane wish to acknowledge the help and comfort she was shown by the nurses and nurse’s aides from Visiting Nurse Association Health and Hospice Group. You have our deepest gratitude.
Mary Jane will forever be in our hearts and her memory and love will go on through those who knew and loved her.
