Michael J. Riola, 78, of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7th in his home with his loving wife, Christine, by his side. How can you sum a man like Mike Riola up in two paragraphs? You can’t. Instead, you can only provide a small glimpse into his wonderful life. He served his country, was a professional dancer/instructor, opened several successful restaurants, and owned and operated his own construction company. Those who knew him, know about his witty sense of humor, infectious laughter, and honest generosity. He cried at mushy movies, cooked delicious meals, frequented Atlantic City’s blackjack tables, watched his Jets religiously, built crafty projects, and, above all, was a true family man. Mike loved the family gatherings he would host; seeing his whole family together made him the happiest, anyone could see it in his genuine smile. We have lost a truly pure and loving man, however, Michael J. Riola touched so many people’s lives that his memory will live on in all of us. He is survived by his wife, five children, one brother and six grandchildren. The Riola family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15th from 11-2 at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. A Funeral Service will be offered at 2pm. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Special Olympics at www.specialolympics.org. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.quinn-hoppingfh.com.

I knew Mike practically my whole life. From his cousin Anita to Sub Base to Worldwide Heroes, back to the "Sub Pub", Burger King and the window and construction business. His might and mind with his entrepeneurship qualities will surely be missed and never replaced. He was such a successful man-always reinventing himself into success when life deals you a failure.I got to know Mike especially well when he started the Sub Pub business which was a huge success-people packed in and waiting lines outside. He would give away free food to grow the business and it worked-he had a quick and easy recipe for pigs in a blanket that I will never forget! Mike I was sad to hear the news but I am happy 'cos I know you are in a better place now. The last time I was with Mike was in Trenton NJ when I was trying to land him some window business on a landmark building. He was still the same, brightening up the room bringing my uncle Frank along to reconnect us. A finer human being you will never find. I will miss you Mike-always in my thoughts as an inspiration and role model.
