On January 27, 2017, the beautiful spirit of Mildred (Piccini) Nobile, age 102, was called home to be with her Lord and her beloved angels and saints, to whom she prayed each and every day. Her family sat by her side sharing memories of the full and happy life she led. Millie and Fred, her devoted husband for 67 years, were inseparable until his death in 2010. Also predeceasing her were 3 siblings, her brother Joseph Piccini, and her sisters Jean Pagano and Katherine Russo. Surviving her are her 3 children—Vincent Nobile (Laura) of South Plainfield, NJ, Matthew Nobile of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Caroline Nobile of Pittsburgh, PA; 8 grandchildren—Michael Nobile, Anna Marie Nobile, Christine Leso, Gina Nobile, Danielle Stio, Rachel (Gryta) LeBaron, Kyle Gryta, and Drew Nobile; and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Millie also enjoyed her many nieces and nephews, who have warm memories of the pool parties, summer barbecues, and raucous New Year’s Eve celebrations in Scotch Plains, NJ, where Millie and Fred lived until retiring to Brick Town and ultimately to Toms River. For the past 7 years Millie resided with her daughter in Edinboro, PA, where she easily made many new friends. Everyone loved to hear Millie’s upbeat stories about growing up in Newark during the Great Depression, riding in her father’s horse-pulled buggy, dancing at their neighborhood clubhouses to the live music of Tommy Dorsey and the big bands, and driving in the Model-T to Long Branch on hot summer days.
As a World War II bride, Mildred was very proud to be among the women whom the government recruited to do top secret work at Newark airport in support of the G.I. war effort. After the war Millie worked in electronics factories in and around Scotch Plains while she and Fred devoted their lives to raising their children in love and happiness. Millie's loving, caring, and playful nature were magnetic. Those around her couldn’t help but see the bright side of life and thoroughly enjoy it. We have all learned a lot from this amazing woman.
