Peter loved to tell jokes & we loved listening to him.  He was a wonderful example to our family as a  loving husband, father & grandfather.  His gentle smile and laughter put smiles on our faces. He will be truly missed... We learned much from Peter and we thank him.

My Godfather and Uncle Peter gave me my middle name. Surprisingly, it wasn't until his passing that I learned his middle name was Antonio (which is my first name). It's funny how after a lifetime you can learn something new about a person who has always been there since your very first memories. I remember a frozen snowy December day in Brooklyn, when my Uncle and my Dad tied a box to a sleigh and pulled me around the streets for what seemed like forever. I remember how whenever he took me to his workbench he'd get all excited and couldn't wait to tell me about his latest treasure find, this time a bunch of string, and all the possible things that he could do with it, even though that string would stay tucked away in a drawer for time immemorial. Of course, I got the lecture about how people don't appreciate things like thrown away string. I remember how he'd take me to his garden with pride and show me the tomatoes, and tell me all you need is a salt shaker and a tomato and all would be right with the world. He was right. I remember when he and I would be sitting with Grandpa at Holly Patterson, and just sit. Quietly. Not talking. There wasn't always something that had to be said, sometimes it's what isn't said that really means the most. And with my Uncle Peter that was usually the case. So, while I was surprised that his middle name was Antonio, after a lifetime of knowing him, it didn't mean I didn't know him 100%. He was a proud man. He shined shoes on the streets of NYC as a kid, and hustled to bring bread home to the table. When I was that age I was afraid to cross the street. Life was really hard then, but he not only survived, he found a way to make life better for his family, just as he did when he started his own family. There was one thing, though, that took me a very long time to figure out about my Uncle, and it caused a lot of arguments and misunderstanding until I figured it out. He wanted to be respected. Respected for all he had overcome and all he had accomplished in his life. He wanted to be respected for being smart, which he was. And I think there was some of that Italian head-of-the-family respect thing going on too, which I also understood. Well Uncle Peter, beyond all the love you had, and have, from your beautiful family, including your sister Filomena, I hope you knew, and know, that you had much respect too. You had my respect, 100%. I feel peace in the sense that I believe you had a long full life here on earth. You lived the way you wanted and you left this world the way you wanted. What more can a person ask for? Right now I have tears in my eyes, but I know as time moves on I'll remember the sleigh ride, and the tool bench and the quiet moments, and I'll smile. Unfortunately, I'll remember those horrible awful jokes! I'm sorry to say you not only gave me my middle name, but you gave me your terrible sense of humor. Not bad though as far as gifts go. Thank you. So, as I say goodbye for now my dear Uncle Peter, I'm sending my never ending love and yes, respect to you. Rest In Peace. You deserve to. (PS. I miss you.)
