Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother.
In loving memory of Phyllis Selma (Freda Tzipora) Berman - (09/21/1923 - 01/12/2025).
PHILICE SKOLNICK age 101 passed away in her home on January 12, 2025. Born in Newark, New Jersey to Benjamin and Lillian Berman, Phyllis lived her childhood years surrounded by loving aunts, uncles and cousins in Irvington, New Jersey. After graduating Irvington High School in 1940 at age 16, Phyllis began working as a secretary to help support her family.
During the summer of 1941 Phyllis vacationed at the Normandy Hotel in the Catskill Mountains where she met the love of her life, the handsome lifeguard Danny Skolnick. One year and three months later Phyllis (now Philice) and Danny were married - a marriage that lasted 63 years until Danny’s passing in 2006.
Their loving marriage produced 3 children: Sharon, Steven, Judy. 4 grandchildren: Michael, Jason, Michelle, Lauren, and 5 great-grandchildren: Katie, Colin, Anthony, Brayden, Gianna.
In 1953 Philice and Danny moved to Union, New Jersey where they raised their 3 children, and established heartwarming friendships with many neighbors, and fellow Temple Israel of Union members - friendships which would last their entire lifetime.
In addition to her responsibilities as wife, mother and homemaker, Philice worked as a secretary for the United States Coast Guard, to Shering-Plough Corporation, and later on for a Real Estate appraising company.
Upon retirement in 1986 and moving to Toms River, New Jersey, Philice volunteered at Community Medical Center for 5 years, and served 2 terms as the Corresponding Secretary for the Jewish Friends of Holiday City South.
Joining the line dancing teachers of Holiday City South in 1997 became one of Philice’s favorite activities, along with solving crossword puzzles, reading, playing Mah-Jongg, and crocheting.
Throughout her 101 plus years Philice was blessed with an abundance of love from family and friends alike which she continued to hold dear, and often reminisced about each and every day. Preceded in death by her brother Dan Berman, husband Danny Skolnick and son-in-law George Bello, Philice leaves behind memories for which we all will continue to cherish.
Yehi Zichra Baruch - May her memory be a blessing.
