Rene Valdivia, 75, of Berkeley Twp., NJ passed away peacefully Monday July 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Rene proudly served his country as a member of the US Army in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. Rene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. His love of family is his legacy. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his days with his golf buddies and family members on the links.
Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Rene had lived in Kinnelon before moving to the Toms River area 4 years ago. Rene and his siblings brought his mother’s Mexican cooking to New Jersey through the family restaurant, Fiesta Hut. Prior to his retirement, Rene was a Real Estate Agent.
Rene is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Mary (McKernan) Valdivia, his devoted daughter Renita Kerr (Terry), and three loving sons; Rene Garcia , Andrei Valdivia and David Valdivia. In addition he is survived by his siblings, David (Alison) Garcia, Jose (Marge) Garcia, Dinah Herrmann, and Alexandra (Hugo) Mougillanes, ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Rene was predeceased by his parents, Alfonzo and Carmen, and his twin brother Roberto.
Rene’s devotion and love of his family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. In respect to Rene’s wishes, he was cremated and a service with military honors will be private.
