On August 13th, 2023, surrounded by his sons, Raymond and Edward, daughter Pattie, daughter in-law Marie, grandson Michael, and granddaughters Angela and Nicole, Richard Brustowicz, 91 peacefully passed away.
Born and raised in South River, Richie married the love of his life Gertrude in 1954, and together they raised their family in his hometown of South River. He was a Principal Inspector for the New Jersey State Police until retiring, and then worked as a security guard for Webcraft Technologies. Richie and Gertrude moved to Toms River in 2000 to enjoy their retirement. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War where he served in the US Army, and a member of the South River Moose Lodge.
Richard was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, who later on in life enjoyed feeding the deer from his backyard. He loved to socialize, tell jokes, and make people laugh with his original one-liners. You could often find him at the local store buying his daily lottery tickets. He enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets with his friends and family, and taking trips to his trailer in Pennsylvania and to Atlantic City. He was extremely generous, and often came home from shopping with an overload of food which included surprise treats for his family members. His happiness came from giving to others and making them smile.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Gertrude in 2020 and is survived by his five children;
Barbara D’Averso of Whiting, Raymond of Barnegat, Linda Gliese of East Brunswick, Edward and his wife Marie of Milford, Pa, and Mesa, Az, Patricia Starzynski and her husband Anthony of Vero Beach, Fl.
Richie was a loving pop-pop to his grandchildren Robert, Angela, Amy, Nicole, Michael, and Daniel and great grandfather to Taylor, Peyton, and Jackson.
