Robert W. McCarthy age 85 of Toms River died Thursday April 6th. Born and raised in Jersey City, he graduated from Dickinson High School and then from Temple University where he was a member of the men's gymnastics team. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1961. He became a health officer for the Township of Union, where he worked for 25 years before retiring to Toms River. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved seeing the Kentucky Derby in person as much as possible. He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Jean McCarthy and his sister Joan M. McCarthy Guerra. He is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews and their families. Joseph R Guerra and his wife Patricia and their children Alex Guerra and Annie Guerra, Susan M. Corazza and her husband Richard and their children Andreas Corazza, Anton Corazza and Stefan Corazza, James M. Guerra and his wife Melissa and their children Xavier Guerra and Julia Guerra, Nancy A. Guerra and her daughters Veronica Quilodran and Manon Quilodran, William M. Guerra and his sons Phoenix Guerra and Gavin Guerra, Robert T. Guerra and his wife Katharine and their children Maxine Guerra and Liam Guerra. Visiting will be Wednesday from 9:30 am to 11 am at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Rd. Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:30 am Wednesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe R. C. Church, Berkeley Twp. Burial will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown,NJ.
