It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Joseph Ricci, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who left us peacefully on November 19, 2024, at the age of 85.
Bob was born on August 22, 1939, in Orange, New Jersey to Nicholas and Eva Ricci. He graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood and went on to earn a degree in History from Seton Hall University. Bob lived in Maplewood for over 60 years before eventually moving to Toms River and dedicated over 30 years of his career as a corporate real estate executive, working for such firms as Mellon Bank, and The Equitable. Bob spent the last 14 years as a greeter at the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.
In 1967, Bob married the love of his life, Carol (Tyburski). Together they raised 3 sons, who were his pride and joy: Matthew (Trina), David (Alyssa) and Brian (Naomi). Bob was also a cherished and extremely proud grandfather to six grandchildren (Sophia, Cole, Jack, Theo, Harry and Will), who brought him endless hours of happiness and smiles.
Bob was very involved with the Catholic church, and over the years he volunteered at 4 different parishes. He was a swimmer and hiker and spent many hours as a teen exploring the South Mountain reservation and after college, drove across the country which led to stories of mayhem and adventure. An avid reader, he read 2-3 books from many genres per week. Bob loved sports, and coached youth Baseball in Maplewood, NJ and youth Basketball at Immaculate Heart of Mary church. He was also a passionate and lifelong fan of the NY Yankees. And as many of you know, he was huge aficionado of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, and in his younger days, he would perform skits at nursing homes as Ollie.
He was a true friend - always staying in touch, checking on friends and family, looking for the best in people, and lending support and friendship – he was a friend that you could always count on. Those who knew him best would agree that among his best qualities was his infectious laugh which could often be heard in the next county.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, his children and grandchildren, his brothers Ronald (Cheryl), and Raymond (Nancy), his sister, Suzanne (Frank), lifelong friends (Steve Ronnie and Bill Graf) countless cousins, cherished friends, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Ruthann Krempin and Barbara Hyra.
A celebration of life will be held in early 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Deborah Heart and Lung Center or the Nature Conservancy in Bob’s memory.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
