Rosalina J. Grossi

Born July 5, 1933, in Camuy, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Cristino and Juanita Robles Velez. At the age of 15, she moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she would later raise her family before moving to Toms River, NJ, in 2001. She met the love of her life, Anthony Grossi at Roseland Dance Hall, Manhattan, NY and they married October 24, 1964. Together, they shared 51 beautiful years until his passing January 8, 2016.

Though she worked for Greyhound Bus Company and as a sales representative for the Plymouth Shops in New York, Rosalina was a homemaker at heart and, most importantly, a loving mother and grandmother.

Rosalina could often be found tending to her garden, where she loved spending time and watching for hummingbirds. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends, having a glass of wine and playing games together. During her quieter moments, she enjoyed knitting. Her door was always open, and found great joy in entertaining her guests, often cooking so much food that there would be leftovers for days.

She was the life of the party and loved by everyone. Rosalina had a way of lighting up any room she walked into. With her witty personality and playful, ball-busting sense of humor, she loved making everyone laugh and bringing joy to those around her.

She was active in her community through the Holiday Heights Club and the Italian American Club. An avid player of Mah-Jong, Rosalina enjoyed being a part of the Mah-Jong Club and spending time with fellow players. Rosalina had a generous heart and loved giving to those in need, proudly supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Along with her husband, Rosalina was preceded in death by her siblings Aldo, Cristino, Selso, Margarita, Esther, Jovita, and Obdulia Velez.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Elsa Grossi-Vrettos and her husband, George; grandson Anthony Vrettos and his wife, Lisa; great-granddaughter Olivia Vrettos; godson and nephew Joseph Grossi; and David Stephen, who was like a son to her.

Family and friends may call for viewing and visitation from 4 PM to 8 PM Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, September 18, 2026 at St. Maximilian Roman Catholic Church, 130 St Maximilian Ln, Toms River, NJ 08757.

Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd, Woodside, NY 11377.
