

Sharon Ann Gaccione, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2026. Born on June 28, 1949, Sharon lived a life defined by devotion to her family, her community, and her lifelong passion for athletics.
Sharon was the beloved wife of 54 years to Robert Gaccione and a proud and loving mother to her two sons, Ryan Gaccione and his wife AnnMarie, and Robert Gaccione and his wife Erin. She was a cherished grandmother to Ryan and Andrew Gaccione, and Kacey and Elyssa Gaccione, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She is also survived by her brother, Pat Caughey, and his wife Tina, as well as her sister-in-law Patty Caughey. Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Genevieve Caughey, and her brothers, Kenneth and Robert Caughey.
A pillar of her community, Sharon dedicated countless hours to youth sports and recreation. She coached baseball, softball, and basketball, and was the founder of the girls’ softball league in Point Pleasant. Her leadership extended throughout the Shore Conference, where she served as head field hockey referee, umpired baseball, and refereed basketball. She also ran the Point Pleasant recreation basketball program, shaping the lives of countless young athletes. Sharon broke barriers as the first women’s college softball coach at Upsala College, where she coached for two seasons. Her own athleticism in her youth was remarkable, and she carried that competitive spirit and love of sport throughout her life.
A passionate fan, Sharon rarely missed a chance to cheer on Notre Dame and the New York Mets. Outside of sports, she found her greatest happiness in time spent with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She especially treasured days kayaking and making memories at the family’s lake house in Pennsylvania.
Sharon will be remembered for her energy, generosity, leadership, and unwavering love for those around her. Her impact on her family and community will be felt for generations to come.
A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church on Route 35 in Bay Head.
