Sidney Kassenoff

Sid was born on a chicken farm on Bay Avenue and raised by his parents David and Jean Kassenoff along with his two older brothers Maurice and Sandy. As a student of Toms River High School class of 1951 he was a star athlete and distinguished himself by earning four varsity letters in one academic year and being a part of the 1951 Undefeated Shore Conference Championship Track Team. He held several school records in hurdles that were unbroken for many years. Along with his track teammates Sid was inducted to the Toms River Regional Schools Athletic Hall of Fame.

After high school Sidney Kassenoff served in the United States Army during the Korean War and obtained the rank of corporal. Upon his discharge Sid returned Toms River to work with his family. In 1967 he became the second franchisee of Lawn Doctor in which he remained until 2016. He was also a partner in Business Park Inc. which developed the warehousing complex, Ocean County Business Park.

After his family and friends, Sid truly loved his hometown of Toms River. He served on the Board of Trustees of Community Memorial Hospital and helped it grow into Community Medical Center. At CMC he served as the Chairman of the Board for eight years. Sidney Kassenoff was an active member of the Toms River Chamber of Commerce which honored him as their “1984 Citizen of the Year”. He was also a founding member of Central Ocean Rotary Club, served as the President of the United Way of Ocean County and served on many charitable committees.

Sidney is survived by his loving wife Rosalind (Weissberg) and his two sons; Marc and his wife Lisa, Scott and his wife Gabriella and his three grandsons; Jacob, Adam and Koa.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 3, 2021 1 pm at the Toms River Jewish Community Cemetery, 1130 W Whitty Rd, Toms River, NJ 08755.
