Anthony…. I hope you’re at peace and seeing how many people love
You and will miss you. It’s been so long since we spoke but the memories we had will live
On forever. From hiding in school buses to hot spot to smoking in the woods in abandon cars or missions of walking and sneaking into each other’s houses. You were always a free spirit and such a loving one at that. Rest in paradise dear sweet Anthony.

I have lots of great memories hanging out and having fun with you in Nobleton and in Toronto that I will treasure and carry with me always.

When I moved to the big city you were the first roommate I ever had. I still remember when I moved in all the posters and fun stuff you gifted to me. You were such a happy and nice guy and I felt like that always rubbed off on me whenever you were around.

Although you have left us for now, your spirit and memories will live on through me and everyone else’s lives you touched. Going to miss you man.

R.I.P. Defaz

I still can’t thank your family and yourself for taking me in as a kid for a few months, allowing  me to graduate school in king and wait for a spot to open up in the shelter so that I could reunite with my mom. It was such a scary time in my life, I was young and never thought someone would help my mom and I out. You were there for me in my darkest and hardest times. I never forgot the times we spent together and the countless memories we shared. 

 I still think of the time you crossed the country to end up randomly bumping into my mom while you sat with some random street/punk kids on commercial drive in B.C, of all places it was 10mins from where I lived. Finding out you were going to come and see me, put a huge smile on my face and  I was finally able to give you back the Korn tshirt that I had held onto for 8years just for you. It was like fate reunited us once again. 

You were like a brother to me. I feel like I’ve been kicked in the chest and my heart feels like it needs to be picked up off the floor. To be honest, I’m not ready to say goodbye, so I will just say until we meet again brother.

I can’t count the times we shouted songs together. Or knowing that whenever I saw you we were about to have an adventure, for better or worse. We always had a story. 

You were a pure spirit, an explorer in the truest sense. And your heart was bigger than most. Rest well. “Let’s not and say we did.”

DeFaz, you had the most unforgettable smile. Thank you for all of the memories.

Everyone who knew him has a Defaz story. One of my favourites is from a particular era in about 2012-2013 when he was doing door to door sales for a seemingly illegitimate pyramid-scheme-type water heater company. In a characteristically absurdist maneuver to increase sales, he got a tattoo on his arm of a cartoonish hot water heater character that he would often cite as evidence of his steadfast belief in the services he was selling. “Look at how much I support this company” he’d exclaim, while rolling up his sleeve during a sales pitch. It never ceased to crack me up. 

It is strange and sad to know that I will never run into him around the city, busking on the street singing an Against Me! song or rounding a corner.

Anthony, you always moved through life in your own way, and it was a great privilege to have moved alongside you for a time, in mosh pits and in alleyways, on stoops and on sidewalks. 
I can’t say for sure, but it always seemed to me that your highest truth was freedom. I admired that greatly about you. I hope freedom is what your soul finds out there and that your version of heaven can handle you. RIP Defaz 🖤

Upon revisiting pictures from more than a decade ago, tears well up in my eyes. Anthony, your ability to brighten a room was unparalleled—from your infectious smile to the extraordinary tales that were uniquely yours. Engaging in full-fledged conversations with your eyes closed was just one of your remarkable quirks.

Defaz , what a sad day. A true legend at King high. You will be missed bro. The good ol days of weedons basement where I got to know you so well.  Rock on my friend.  Save us all a bowl.

Wow Defaz I cannot believe it. You were a true punk rocker and although you had your hard edges you were someone who I always felt truly cared about his friends.

The Couch surfing guitar slanging mad man. Anthony was the type of friend who you could never call to bail you out of jail. He wasn't that type of guy......he was the friend who was in the jail cell with you. A ride or die type of man who just needed a little bit more love then the world could actually give him.

I really hope you are at peace brother and I am sorry we grew apart after all these years. See you when I see you brother <3

Walking by lucky 13 tattoo shop one early morning in Richmondhill, they were giving away free 13 tattoos on Friday the 13th. We both got matching tattoos that day, Defaz of course asked to put his in the most painful spot.  Happy we were so spontaneous. Got a piece of you on my skin brother. Rest well my friend.

The Passera Family are so very sorry to hear of Anthony’s passing. We have so many memories of the wonderful times  he & Johnathon had together growing up. Here is a fond memory of an adventure filled week at the cottage with us many years ago! Anthony we prayer you are at peace. Our heartfelt condolences to your family.

There is so much you can say about Defaz as he was such an interesting and charismatic guy. I have a lot of memories from high school with defaz whether it was hanging out at my house when my parents were out of town or running into him in a mosh pit at a festival the guy always lived life to the fullest, and I always respected how genuine he was. He never kept himself tied down and lived life like a nomad. Defaz I always will always cherish the memories we had together my friend and hope to see you again one day.

Defaz was a good friend to me when I needed one. I have so many fun memories with him. You will not be forgotten. Keep an eye out for me.

Defaz was unlike anyone I've ever met. He had an energy and an approach to life  that was absolutely magnetic. Just the other day someone asked about you, and then it was story time, I had a crowd of people who had never even heard of you before cracking up for a solid hour. I haven't even seen you for years but the amount of stories I have could last a life time. You were probably the greatest musician I've ever known, what I wouldn't give to hear some of your originals again. But I'll carry them in my heart as long as I live. "Oh I just got out of jail, FREEDOOOOOM". You introduced me to some of my favourite music, and somehow got me vintage t shirts of the bands from VV boutique. We ended the highschool experience and started adulthood together. I'll cherish our Wednesday and heintzman times forever. I could just go on and on, but I'll sign off with a NICE ONE BROTHAAA!!!!!

We're all gonna miss you buddy. Wish you were here jamming the way you always did. Love you brother.

Anthony and I were friends back since 1995 at Holy Spirit. we used to hang out all the time. we would have sword fights on a fallen tree in the back of the steeplechase house. we watched Spawn in the loft and Eugene got us extra blankets because it was cold. 

we lost touch through High School and we would periodically catch up through the years. 

the passing of Nana was really hard on him. he showed me the tattoo and how memorable she was to him. 

we got to see each other for my going away party back in 2012 and had a great time. 

we last spoke back in 2017 when we bumped into each other at the Bar in Newmarket. plans fell through and I missed you.  


Rest Easy my Friend.

I would like to remember Defaz, sitting on the pavement outside King with his guitar making magic. Belting our favourite punk songs. With me and Edwards in chorus.

With my eyes closed singing at the sky.
I'll never forget the feeling.
Free, together, parts of a whole.
I remember screwing up the lyrics on the rounds. 

I remember seeing 'defaz' graffiti on the subway. 
Coming home from a hard day. 
Making me smile.

The first thing I remember is how much fun we had.  Whether it be jamming with our band DEMEMFOY, or hanging around school.  Lost of random road trips blasting music and all in between.  We lost contact but always remeber the great times we had.  I’ll never forget you.

I’ll always remember playing and writing songs with Anthony; he gave me the encouragement to write myself and whether or not any of them were good, he sang every single one of them with me. We had lost touch over the last couple years but I’ll never forget how big a part of my life he was growing up and I’ll miss him dearly. I love you Defaz. I hope you’re resting easy my friend.

I would like to take a moment to remember my brother. 
Remember the creative, talented, and smart side of you as you once were. Anthony not only shared a love for music but also had a special self-taught talent for the guitar. He was driven by his experiences to write songs and used his mind as a pen to write his book in life. I will never forget you as a free-natured soul with your feet on the pavement and only nature by your side, heart and mind free. If only we could have experienced that together.

I will never forget your talent as a great Jim Carey impressionist and the dramatic shows we put on for our parents when we were little. The memory will forever be in my heart.

As my soul prospers, I hope that even after death, you know that I’ve never been more proud to have had you as my older brother, until we meet again. I love you, Ash
