On October 29, 2021 in his 86th year, Donn passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He will be missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian (nee Sura). Beloved father of Anne Burns(Greg), Donna Brown (John) and Steve (Lisa Brosseau). Proud Poppa of Elizabeth, Mark, Sydney, Jackie, Erin, Josh and Kevin.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Olive and his brother Murray.
He will also be missed by the Sura and Laurin families.
Donn was born and raised in Montreal. He attended Loyola High School where he credits the teachers/Jesuits for instilling his strong Catholic faith and work ethic. He received degrees from Loyola College(Concordia) and McGill University. Donn’s proudest academic achievement was his graduation as a Baker Scholar from the Harvard Business School where he earned his MBA.
After a number of career moves throughout the country, Donn and the family settled in Toronto when he joined Molson Corporations. He fulfilled a number of roles until he retired as a Senior Vice President of Human Resources.
After retirement, Donn and Lillian travelled extensively with friends and family. He loved to read and was an avid sports fan. The Wilson Superbowl party was a 50 year event, proudly starting with Super Bowl I! He also loved to golf and was a long time member of both The Donalda Club and Royal Montreal Golf Club and was a Master Champion Bridge player.
Donn and Lillian were blessed to have a very special group of friends. He has missed Ross, Steve and Mike, his lifelong friends.
Above all else, Donn loved his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved cheering them on at sporting events, plays, concerts and graduations, supporting them in all of their activities, whatever they may be.
Together, he and Lillian have created an abundance of lifelong memories for themselves, their kids and grandkids including trips and time spent at family cottages, in Montreal and Florida, and a never to be forgotten cruise to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
The family would like to thank the staff of Assisted Living at Sunrise of Thornhill and Delmanor Northtown for the care and support of Donn and Lillian.
Donn was a kind and caring person, with a quick wit and temper, and was proud of his Irish heritage. He enjoyed a cold beer, a nice glass of wine, and dinner with family and friends where the conversations were always interesting, lively and filled with love and laughter! When remembering Donn, please raise a glass [to a man who came a long way from Melrose Avenue in NDG as he liked to say] of cheer!
Visitation for Donn will be held Monday, November 8, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M2M 4K4. A Funeral Mass will occur Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Edward the Confessor, 75 Churchill Ave., Toronto, ON M2N 1Y8.
Proof of full vaccination, along with government issued ID, are mandatory to attend indoor funeral services for those age 12 and older. Masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations directed to the Reena Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
