Gil Opilac Quiambao was born on May 2, 1963, and passed away on May 22, 2026, at the age of 63. Born in Hagunoy, Bulacan, Philippines, Gil was known for his steady resolve, strong work ethic, and quiet courage, which revealed itself most clearly when life demanded it most. Throughout his life, he was devoted to the people he loved, dependable in the ways that mattered most, and brave in the face of whatever came next.
Before settling into life in Toronto, Ontario, Gil spent several years working as a seaman, work that demanded stamina, discipline, and resilience. He later worked for many years at the Royal York Hotel, where he built lasting friendships and became known for both his dedication and unmistakable sense of humour.
Gil had a gift for making people laugh. Whether through his endless stories, quick jokes, or playful conversations, he brought warmth into every room he entered. Even during difficult times, he carried himself with humour and strength, reminding those around him that laughter could often be its own kind of comfort.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including watching sports, especially boxing and tennis, spending time camping and BBQing with family and friends, listening to music, enjoying Filipino food, and watching fishing videos on YouTube for hours at a time.
Gil is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Resurreccion “Baby” Quiambao, and his cherished dog, Deedee. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Exequiel and Filomena.
He leaves behind his loving daughter, Robin Joie, and will be deeply missed by his siblings, Juanita, Paul, and Luisito, along with extended family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the ICU and Respiratory teams at Humber River Hospital for their compassion, care, and support during Gil’s final days.
Visitation will be held on Sunday May 31, 2026 from 2 to 6 pm at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street in North York.
Funeral Service will take place the following day Monday June 1, 2026 at 11:00 am at Kane-Jerrett funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street in North York.
Though he is no longer with us, Gil’s stories, laughter, strength, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all those he touched.
