Ian Holland Gillies

August 10, 1934-April 28, 2016

Peacefully in his 82nd year. He was a dreamer and eternal optimist, hoping until the end that he would recover and go home. He was born and raised in Charlottetown, PEI, to John and Agnes(nee Holland),younger brother to Charles and Flora. He lived in Halifax and Ottawa, and moved to Toronto in 1974. He had a deep faith, attending Mass and praying the Rosary daily. It was a great comfort to his family that friends from St. Timothy's visited, prayed and sang with him through these last weeks. He leaves behind to mourn his wife Eva, daughter Diane(Rock) and son Stephen(Aneta), grandchildren Alyssa, Phillip, Finley, Violet and Benjamin, nephew John(Janet) and niece Patricia(Steven) and their children, and cousin Fr. Peter Larisey. Visitation will be held at the Jerrett Funeral Home 6191 Yonge Street(south of Steeles Ave) on Wednesday May 4, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church(21 Leith Hill Rd. Toronto, Ontario) on Thursday May 5, 2016 at 1 p.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to Covenant House, Where he volunteered for over 25 years or North York General Hospital, where he received excellent care.
