Mrs. Skeete was my grade 2 teacher at Hillcrest Elementary school in Toronto in 1972. She was a great inspiration and help to myself and the other Caribbean students, many of whom were recent immigrants. As a fellow Trinidadian she was my favourite teacher and will always have a special place in my heart!

Living with my aunt Joy, uncle Wilfred, Barry, Michie, and Stacy as a young adult is one of the most memorable times of my life.  My aunt’s special Saturday soup remains in my mind as a wonderful family tradition, and the memories of auntie’s infectious laughter will always bring a smile to my face.

Thank you auntie Joy for all the love and care you gave me for as long as I can remember. I will miss you dearly.

To uncle Wilfred, Barry, Michele, and Stacy: your dedication to auntie's care and comfort during her time with us is the very definition of true LOVE.  Your loss is felt by many.

A woman everyone was better for knowing.  When I recall Joy I think of her smile, her warmth, her presence and her unmistakable gift of making all of us feel welcomed.   Joy was always there, always engaged and interested and interesting.  I heard she loved taking courses and learning new things,  what I learned from her was a soft and constant presence.  Her meals were something I looked forward to and have tried to recreate over the years.  She took pride in her home and it showed ... every time I visited she was doing something for her family, for her kids  she was a true version of what a mom should be.  Big hugs and big effort.  I was so sad to hear the news,  but equally proud and thankful for her to hear the effort everyone made to make her last years comfortable, filled with love and presence, she was always there for her family and her family was there for her.  Joy you created a phenomenal family ... 3 great great kids who were a big part of my life a long time ago.  Time will never lessen the memory of who Joy was and what great selfless things she did with her life.    If you knew her, you were one of the lucky ones. 

This is on behalf of my wife Merle Enston, sister of Joy, as well as myself since Merle is unable to write anymore.  I remember well the first time I met Joy and her family.  In October, 1969, Merle and I were riding in the back seat of Joy and Wilfred's car, on the way to the Lion Safari. In the car ahead of us were their close friends, Helen and Vince Gillon, along with 'wee Eleanor', who would become our friends too.  So much time and so many events have passed since, but I can still see vividly everyone who was there that day.  
Goodbye Joy, and thanks for all you meant to us and so many other people.

I would spend a summer or two at Aunty Joy and Uncle Wilfred’s house, when I was younger, much younger. I would only speak to Stacy and Michele. Sorry Barry. I also remember going to the pool across the street, from the Skeete’s residence, with my cousin Kelly.  My aunty Joy would make sure I always had Canadian money, during my stay, and when she would visit to NYC. I will miss those visits, and her cooking.  
I love you Uncle Wilfred, Stacy, Michele and Barry. 
We were all so blessed to have Aunty Joy Joy in our lives.

What an incredible woman to have so many love her so deeply and with such dedication.She was and is a blessing your mom Joy.

My Aunty was loved by everyone she met. Was always happy to see our kids and always had good advice to offer on them being good holistic students and children. Aunty was a good soul. We will miss her greatly. Rest in Peace.

My fondest remember of auntie Joy was watching her and uncle Wilfred sharing affectionate hugs  and  me saying someday I wanted what they had .

We join our heartfelt sorrow and love with all the loved ones and family members of our dear Auntie Joy. I will always remember her smile and soft loving ways. The memories will stay as they usually do and I am so thankful that they are treasured ones. Dear Uncle Wilfred, Barry, Michele and Stacy as well as my aunts Dian, Vickibeth, Merle, Alma and Uncle Carlisle: may you be comforted knowing your wife, mother and sister was a woman who sought God and believed in Jesus Christ. I remember during a visit she said she wanted “peace, peace” and now she is resting in that peace. Her life testified of the great words of the apostle: 

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing (2 Timothy 4:7, 8).

We will continue in the unity of prayer for all who sorrow. 


My thoughts of Auntie Joy will always be special, precious and memorable.  My Father, and her brother, Randolph Andrews always told me that I remind him so much of his sister Joy.  Oh what a joy it brought to my heart. Not only was she good-looking like me,  but according to Daddy,  he saw many similar qualities in the both of us.
My husband, Steve and I, remember visiting with her at her home in Canada where she took us on a tour of the City. We had a wonderful time together and will always cherish those fond memories.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Uncle Wilfred and the entire family.

Our family has so many fond memories of Auntie Joy, the Skeete’s are our 2nd family and we spent lots of time together.   She was there when we needed her and always with a smile.  She had a great laugh and I think Stacy and I made her laugh with all our shenanigans.   
Our hearts go out to Uncle Wilfred, Barry, Michele and Stacy as well the family.  Auntie Joy will be missed but always in our hearts.

Memories of my Aunt Joy’s life will never leave me. She was indeed a strong woman, a truly lovable and kind person, prayerful, loving and full of faith and godliness. Her kindness will never be forgotten. She has left us but we will always miss her presence.

We met Joy and Wilfred over the years when they visited Joyce Jones. Joy was always calm, pleasant and smiling...what a beautiful human being.

Sharing your beautiful Joy with you was a privilege.  She was such a warm and loving person.  I know she prayed for all of us, always. Bless her heart.  I shared many a conversation with her.  Mostly she listened and connected with the emotions.  I know she loved us all.  I remember her spaghetti-like skillet recipe, her cook-up, her homemade bread and her bran muffins.  I enjoyed vacationing with her, and Miche, and Lenore on the East Coast.   Joy was so happy to eat fresh fish every day.  She loved the spring, summer, and fall.  She got through winter to get to spring.  She loved the scents, colours, sights, and sounds of life.   It was hard to see her suffer.  She is at peace now. She was so gentle and kind and had a smile that could fill up a room. May God bless, strengthen, and encourage all the Skeete family during this time.  Joy. The name says it all.  

What a beautiful example of a woman of Grace, strength and yes, quiet joy.  I felt so welcomed and comfortable around her.  It is an honor to have been a "flower girl" at her marriage to my uncle Wilfred. (Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.) Proverbs 31:28

I remember meeting Joy at a dinner dance many years ago. She and her husband welcomed us and made us feel  like a special part of her family.  I am blessed to have met her and see that love in Stacy. Stacy, Dave, and family, please accept our condolences at your loss.

I knew Aunty Joy for as long as she was married to my uncle Wilfred and in all that time I never heard her raise her voice. She was always smiling and always ready to share a kind word and sound advice. Aunty Joy will be missed by the Skeete/ Somerszaul  family here in Brooklyn. Heaven has definitely gained an Angel. Aunty Joy certainly lived up to her name. She always had an encouraging word and great memories to share. A great sense of humor and a calming presence.
I remembered when my dad died, we held a memorial at our childhood home and amid all the pain and grief while singing  "weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning ", I turned to my sisters and said "I thought aunty Joy had an evening flight?"
We all doubled over in laughter and shared the story with Aunty Joy the following day when she did indeed cometh....just in the evening. 
She of course had a good laugh and helped comfort us in our grief.
