June enjoyed her last five years at Meighen Retirement Home surrounded by caring staff and many old colleagues from her career in the Salvation Army. Indeed it was the very building many decades ago that she received her training as a missionary that took her to Africa, Bermuda and many communities in Canada. June played many musical instruments as part of her role in the Army and to her last days kept playing her harmonicas. A special thanks goes to Major Maureen Bain, Salvation Army Chaplin, who, at the end, was her best friend and prayed with her regularly.
June was the youngest of her family, caring for many of them over the years as they grew older. The family was orphaned when both parents died (Harry Pike 1929 and Fanny Pike 1934). Predeceasing June were her sisters and brothers George, Ida, Dora (Jackson), Hazel, Maurice, Pearl (Root), Earl and half brother Don. Eileen (Peckitt) survives June as the only living sibling. June will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and all staff of the Sunnybrook Hospital. From the initial trauma care unit to the palliative care ward all involved were caring, kind and professional with June and her family.
As per June’s wishes there will be no funeral or visitation.
June will be buried at a later date with her sisters and brothers in Bloomfield, Ontario.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca for the Pike family.
