Out of that marriage came what Kathryn called her special achievement. At 42 years of age, she had our daughter Kellina. She moulded³ a family home, with her amazing cooking skills and her ability to teach Kellina the finer things in life. She also gave Kellina the tools, to be successful in her future

Unfortunately, about 4 years ago Kathryn was diagnosed with cancer. It spread quite quicky and left her to fight a losing battle. Despite the illness she never let it get her down. She kept smiling, kept joking and in the final year of her life. Took a bus tour trip around Italy. On those 18 days she never wained. She was up early every morning waiting for the bus to leave and kept up with the tour until bedtime. She is truly the bravest person I have ever known. 

I thank God, for bringing Kathryn into my life, for blessing us with Kellina and for the good times we had over the last quarter century. Goodbye for now Kathryn, I love you and I will see you again some day.

She was very adept at finding the humour and the lighter side of every situation. Her ever present smile had a way of drawing people to her.

Kathryn had a talent for music as well. She was a solid soprano. Who sang in 4 different choirs in Toronto. Including hear at Blessed Sacrament and was a contour at St. John's in Scarbrough. 

Kathryn was very community oriented. She worked on several Federal, Provincialand Municipal campaigns in several different ridings. So much was her commitment, that she did door to door campaigning while 8 mths pregnant with Kellina. She believed in leaving the community a better place than she found it. 

Kathryn was a great supporter of the Canadian Military as well. She was a great moral supporter of my unit, 32 Service Battalion and made up and sent off care packages to troops, while I was serving in Afghanistan.

Kathryn also served on the West Lansing Home Owners Association, as Secretary. She worked tirelessly on that board, creating the best newsletter I've ever seen. Her attention to detail and her research skills were second to none. During her time on that board, she was instrumental in creating a running track with w/o stations in Gwendolyn park.

As well, she was a member of the academy. For the Academy Awards. She used to drag me out to movies and after the movie she would ask my opinion on the acting, The cinematography, The costumes and the set design. Then she would take out her ballot and vote. The next day she would mail it off too Hollywood. Never a dull moment with Kathryn..

Kathryn created a fb group for retired CBC employees spread out across the country, that is now 3000 members strong. Her legacy will live on, As a founder of that group/page.

Today, the 19th of May, is one month shy of our 25th wedding anniversary, we had an exceptional marriage, rarely apart and were best friends.

I'd like to start off by thanking you all for coming here today for Kathryn's final service. There's not enough time to put into words the impact that Kathryn had on the people she touched in her lifetime. This is but a brief overview of that time.

Kathryn was born in Winnipeg Manitoba. At an early age the family moved to Montreal. She grew up in St. Eustache. Where her father had a small farm. with horses. It was here where she began her life long love of horses and subsequently became a skilled rider. Winning numerous ribbons and became a member of the Montreal hunt club and Canada's Jr. Olympic team. She was at the time, the youngest member of the Hunt Club to receive her colours. She participated in numerous fox hunts and was successful in capturing a fox. Where she received its head, that is still mounted in our home today.

She excelled as a student and was fluent in 4 languages English, French, Spanish and German. She attended Loyola and Bishops universities in Quebec. Studying the arts. She did some modeling when she was young as well and later joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Kathryn was hired as a production assistant in Sports. She was one of the few women in the department and her gregarious personality was an asset in a Male dominated industry. Through her intelligence, charm and wit, She was adept at learning on the fly. She was truly one of the trail blazers for women in the workplace.

In her 34 year career at CBC
She worked on many Olympic games, world figure skating championships, track and field, expos baseball, formula one racing and CFL football and later in the Arts and Entertainment, with Adrienne Clarkson. One of her proudest moments, was creating a tape library for the Arts and Entertainment dept. In these positions she held, Kathryn had the opportunity to travel the world and was an accomplished traveler.



Dearest Phil and Kellina,
What a shock to get the news of Kathryn's passing.  Thank you so much Phil for coming all the way to Fredonia, NY to let John and I know.  May you take comfort in knowing that Kathryn had a gift for bringing sunshine with her wherever she went.  I will forever cherish hearing her share a story.  Kathryn had an incredible gift of bringing to life the most mundane situations and circumstances with a humour that made me crack my ribs with laughter !  The best part of it is that she didn't even know she was doing it - she was just relating an event.  As time passes and you both begin to heal, may you remember the laughter and may you remember the passion for life that Kathryn had and may you embrace life with all the wonder and enchanchtment that she would have wanted you to have.
We love you and we are praying for you.

I miss Kathryn and really can’t yet fathom that she has passed. People often talk about about those who passed in the way that they passed.  Kathryn will be talked about for the way she lived, with a passion for everything that she did and for everyone in her life. Her courage was remarkable.  She was an inspiration to all of us. 

I remember clearly Kathryn’s first day in the Sports Department. We hit it off immediately.  Her wit, humour and caring personality were always evident.  Her vision of life was remarkable.  She had a wonderful way of seeing the quirky, humorous side to some of the most trying experiences. Her work ethic was supreme and she excelled in whatever she took on. Our years together in Sports and beyond are numerous.  The memories are treasured.
  
She often spoke to me of her love for you, Phil and Kellina.  She would mention how fortunate she was to have you both in her life.  

After my retirement to Costa Rica, it was wonderful to reconnect with her via Facebook for which she, along with Laurie Martin was integral in connecting all of us once again.  Kathryn's  legacy of friendship and love are all around us.  We are all blessed to have known her.   I shall be forever grateful. 

Phil and Kellina, I’m sure the days ahead will be terribly hard for you. I hope you find a glimmer of comfort in knowing how much she was cared for by so many.  Wishing you and your family peace, light and love. 

Still so hard for me to write about Kathryn because she seems to be here still.  We were colleagues for years in TV Sports, but I was never closer to her than the past two years when we worked together on her brainchild, the CBC/SRC Employees page.  Im so proud to have known her; she was so brave and beautiful.  Phil and Kellina, you are in my thoughts now and always.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. Kathryn and I did a lot of remotes at the CBC together. One of her favourites was a Canada games in 1987 where she worked with Freddie,  Scott Russell and I was the VTR editor. There was a picture that her Mom loved of the two of us where she said, "we were cute !" But the only problem was that" Kathryn had too much lipstick on!"  Included is that picture .  Kathryn will me missed , we had a lot of fun in the old days at the CBC.

We met Kathryn on a trip to Italy.  We may not have known her long but we really enjoyed her company.  While we were in Italy Dan got lost in Venice so when it came time for  a gondola ride I joined both Kathryn and Phil for a romantic ride.  Just the three of us.  After the ride Kathyrn stayed with me and kept me calm while Phil went off to find him.  I will never forget that.   After our trip I stayed in touch with Kathryn via social media.  I loved her sense of humour and her unabashed wit.  She publicly said what a lot of us were thinking.   I loved that about her.   Our hearts and prayers go out to Phil and Kellina.
