She was the 4th child born to Jim & Gertrude Heasman, Salvationists for many years at Danforth Corps. For the duration of the 2nd World War, Jim, Gert, Jim Jr., Bill, Doris and Lois lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where Jim Sr. played in the Armed Forces Band. Known by family and friends as Babe, Lois fulfilled her role in the family as the imp. To this day, she would tell the story of the time when Jim & Gert were going out and Gert forgot to say, “and don’t make fudge.” Of course, the 2 girls took this as license to make fudge. Parents were summoned home to find that Babe’s hair and blouse had caught fire. Despite this, Lois continued to love cooking. She watched cooking shows and enjoyed trying new recipes on friends at dinner parties.
Leaving her early marriage when her 2 girls were very young, Lois forged a new life with the support of Jim & Gert. Soon, she was on her own with her girls, bought a house, and had a secure job at Fromson Heat Transfer. Eventually as office manager, Lois had her friend and sister-in-law Cath, and new friends, Joan McSherry and Cathie White working for her. Although Cath has recently passed, Joan, Cathie and Lois remained good friends long after retirement.
Lois loved music, dancing, and travelling the world. She could always find someone with a similar interest to explore opera, mountains, food and culture throughout Europe, Russia, England, Scotland, Greece and Islands in the sun. Two frequent companions were Peter Agg, her 2nd husband, and Evelyn Benson, both now deceased.
Lois loved generously and was loved dearly by her family. Cherished mother to her daughters Brenda (Paul Appleby) and Marilyn (John Kershaw). Much loved Grandma to Simon, Jordan, Jeremy (Rachel) and Lindsay (Sean) and Great-grandma to Jayson, Makayla, Madison, Brielle and Olivia. Fondly remembered by Heasman and Tyler cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was predeceased by siblings Bill (Cath), Jim (Ellen and then Barbara), and Doris. Lois is survived by her brother-in-law Gord Ward. After Doris died, Lois often regretted that she could not phone Doris and ask about a childhood memory or friend.
A Celebration of Lois’s life will be held for immediate family only, on October 14, 2023. Majors Ron & Donna Millar will officiate in their capacities as life-long Heasman friends and Salvation Army officers. Cremation has already taken place, with burial in the Garden of Gethsemane section of Highland Memory Gardens. If you would like to join the Celebration virtually, the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home will be live-casting the ceremony.
Should you wish to make a donation in memory of Lois, she always supported the Canadian Wildlife Fund and the Salvation Army.
