

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Manda Canaran, 82, of North York, Ontario. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at North York General Hospital. Manda was born on July 30, 1935 in Alibaug (Bombay), India to Vasant and Jesse (nee Augustine) Athavale. She is survived by her loving husband Vasant. They were married April 30, 1960 and had 57 happy years together. She is also the proud mother of three children Pratibha, Vish (Lyn) and Lalit (Anna), and cherished grandmother of three grandchildren Matthew, Sean and Alanna. Manda is also survived by her sister Hira and brothers Madhu, Sudhir, Ashok and Giresh and predeceased by her brother Vijay.
Manda will be missed by her family and friends. Manda was a Head Nurse of the ICU and then Emergency departments at Windsor Western Hospital. Manda retired in 1993 to become a full-time grandmother, volunteer and artist. As a mixed media artist, Manda went on to win several juried competitions.
Manda was loving, generous and kind while instilling a strong work-ethic in the people she touched to do things with passion and love.
A memorial service will be held at Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street, North York (416-223-6050) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 1pm, with gathering and fellowship one hour prior. Burial to follow at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre. We would like to give a special thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses at North York General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
