Suddenly, yet peacefully with her family by her side at North York General Hospital on Monday, December 3rd, 2018. She is survived by her sons Thomas (Maria) and Peter (Geneviève) as well as her grandchildren Céleste and Adam. She is predeceased by her husband Henry who died just a little over a month ago.
She was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother whom if you knew her you would have appreciated her elegance, dignity, wit and often poignant thoughts. She was a small but mighty force to be reckoned with.
After being born in a private home in the Yorkville area, the family moved to Eglinton and Rogers Road area of Toronto. She graduated from York Memorial High School with Honours and was determined to go to teachers college. Instead, Margie chose to start a career, and worked as a statistician at the HZ Heinz Company and Prudential Financial.
In 1952, she met who was to become her husband, Henry Wloka through a mutual friend and were married on July 11, 1953. In 2018 they celebrated their 65th anniversary! They spent much of their early years abroad in several countries of Europe and Mexico. They travelled extensively together and had great stories of their travels highlighted by trips to Morocco, Scandinavia and Cuba (before Castro) and one such story involved eating street vended tacos off of hubcaps in Mexico City. They were marvellous story tellers and were devoted to each other. She was an expert card player and loved to play bridge. She even won a grand silver platter as part of her 'winnings'.
They moved back to Canada in 1975 and settled in Oakville raising their two boys. After the boys were well on their way to becoming men she embarked on a real estate career for sometime. She revelled in the business, but when her husband retired they decided on working together in a mortgage brokerage firm. They excelled in the business but decided over sometime that they wanted to retire. During this period they bought their dream property in Campbellville. "Woodbrooks" as she affectionately called the property, was a paradise to her; hours outside, entertaining, in the pool, spending time with the dog 'Maxi' and maintaining the large property. She loved it.
However, she was convinced to take one last excursion to central America where they settled in Costa Rica with Hank - gorgeous, serene and just a lot of relaxing. While she adored it, she really longed for the 'change of seasons' and her family. They returned to Canada in 2004 and settled into their grand town house in Thornhill where they lived ever since.
She dearly loved her family and in her later years spent much of her 'skimmings' at her favourite retailers and with her grandchildren. She had an eye for detail, home decor and a knack for antiques.
At the end, she spent an exhausting seven years looking after Henry having had a Cancer herself, she was truly fatigued.
She died exactly as she would have wanted it, at home, with her boys helping her, knowing that they were going to be ok.
Margie, Oma, Mom will be dearly missed.
