But we also carry gratitude. We were blessed to be with her as she took her last breath, peaceful and surrounded by love.

Our mother’s legacy is one of quiet strength, immense love, and the unshakeable bond between a mother and her children. We will miss her laughter, her wisdom, and her presence. As we say goodbye, we promise to live as she did, fully, kindly, and bravely.

Rest well, umma. Your love will echo in our lives forever.

We gather today with heavy hearts to honour and remember the life of our mother, Chung Moonsuk. She was our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend who left us peacefully after a courageous 5 and half year battle with ovarian cancer. She left us far too soon at 63, far too young for a soul so vibrant, loving, and full of hopes and dreams.

She was a fighter in every sense. When the doctors gave her months, she lived nearly a year. When they gave her days, she gave us weeks. Even in her final days, she showed grace and strength. Cancer may have touched her body, but it never touched her spirit.

She was a woman of generosity, selflessness, and resilience. But more than that, she was the beating heart of our family. She was our rock, our guide, and our home. A devoted mother, she put her children’s needs above all else, never complaining even when in pain, so that we wouldn’t worry. She was independent to the end, never wanting to burden anyone. She saved the best for others. She was happy to give her possessions, her time, and her love.

Our mother was a teacher, and a businesswoman. She worked tirelessly for most of her life, and only recently began to envision a new chapter - one of travel, rest, and joy. She looked forward to slow mornings, playing with grandchildren, and savoring the life she had worked so hard to build. She had so much more to live for. That time was stolen, and we mourn not only her absence, but the hopes and dreams that will remain unfulfilled.

We miss her terribly. Her absence is a silence louder than words. The world continues to turn and life goes on but nothing feels the same without her. We can no longer FaceTime her, bring her small gifts, or sit by her hospital bed and hold her hand. There are no more chances to make memories. And that hurts most of all. 저희 어머니는 조용하셨지만, 그 안에 누구보다 강한 힘을 가지신 분이셨습니다. 다섯 형제 중 셋째로 태어나 항상 맡은 일을 묵묵히, 빈틈없이 해내셨고, 책임감이 아주 강한 분이셨습니다. 말없이 행동으로 보여주셨고, 늘 믿음을 주시는 분이셨기에 많은 사람들이 어머니를 의지했습니다.

어머니는 투병 중에도 정말 강하셨습니다. 의사들이 몇 달 남았다고 말씀하셨을 때에도 거의 일 년을 버티셨고, 며칠 남았다고 했을 때도 몇 주를 더 살아내셨습니다. 마지막까지 단 한 번도 쉽게 포기하지 않으셨고, 편찮으시면서도 끝까지 저희에게 걱정을 끼치지 않으시려고 애쓰셨습니다.

무엇보다 어머니는 항상 자식들을 먼저 생각하셨습니다. 좋은 것이 생기면 언제나 저희부터 챙기셨고, 정작 본인에게는 아끼고 또 아끼셨습니다. 본인의 것을 내어주고 또 내어주시면서도, 단 한 번도 힘들다거나 아쉽다는 말씀을 하지 않으셨습니다. 저희에게 조건 없는 사랑이란 무엇인지, 진짜 희생이 어떤 모습인지 몸소 보여주신 분이셨습니다.

어머니의 그런 사랑과 헌신은 저희 가슴 깊이 남아 평생을 함께할 것입니다. 이제 더 이상 손을 잡을 수는 없지만, 어머니의 사랑은 저희 안에 살아있고, 앞으로도 계속 저희를 지켜줄 거라 믿습니다.

사랑하는 어머니, 정말 수고 많으셨습니다. 그리고 진심으로 감사합니다. 편히 쉬세요. 저희는 어머니가 남기신 사랑을 기억하며, 어머니의 삶을 닮아가며 살아가겠습니다.
