Patrick ( Paddy) Callan, a truly remarkable man. Known for his kind, welcoming, passionate and humorous personality, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on November 24th 2024.
Born on June 13th 1941 to John and Rose Ann Callan, Paddy lived a life filled with tremendous passion and service towards others. Predeceased by his mother, father, brothers Thomas (Tommy), John (Jackie), Richard (Dixer), his sister Margaret (Margie), nephew Gerrard and his greatly missed Godson Richard (Richie)
He is survived by his devoted and much treasured wife, Maureen, and his beloved children, Greg and Mary-Frances. His brothers Kevin (Vivian), Gerry (Mary), sister Mary (Jim) and countless nieces and nephews. With special thought to his adored God daughter Jacqueline and his honorary son Peter (Lisa-Marie) McDermott . His departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, yet they find comfort in the memories they will carry.
Paddy was a proud Irish man happily spending hours sharing the stories of his youth in Dundalk. He was the 4th of 8 children and was the first of his family to blaze his own trail in moving to Toronto. Not long after getting himself settled, he did everything in his power to help each of his siblings to do the same; ensuring that he would not only see his siblings succeed but he could be there as the doting uncle for each new generation that followed. Once his family were thriving Paddy then turned his eyes towards helping others like himself who were taking their first steps in building their own lives in Toronto.
Paddy was a man of many passions, a long standing member of the Toronto Gaels GFC, a fervent member of Liuna Local 183 and an ardent fan of Celtic FC, the Buffalo Bills and the Toronto Maple Leafs. These often resulted in a very busy Sunday but rain or shine, as a devout Catholic he would rarely miss mass at his local parish.
Paddy's legacy of service, faith, devotion to family and friends, and his compassion, will continue to inspire and guide all those privileged enough to have known him. As we grapple with the loss of his presence in our lives we find solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through the values he instilled and the memories shared by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday December 1 and Monday December 2, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home 6191 Yonge Street in North York. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2024 at St. Edward the Confessor Parish 75 Churchill Avenue in North York at 11 am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be considered in Paddy's memory to the Alzheimer Society.
