He leaves behind his loving wife, Valerie Hobbs, his children, Jeffrey and Jennifer Spurrell, and his five grandchildren, Mikayla, Emma, Logan, Kayden, and Colton. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Saffery (Eric) and Cindy Howelett. Philip now joins his late brother, Michael Spurrell.
Philip was the youngest of four siblings, full of laughter, always a troublemaker with a sharp sense of humour that could light up any room. He spent his early years playing hockey, fishing, and developing a lifelong love for the Toronto Maple Leafs. One of his greatest joys was working as an usher at Maple Leaf Gardens, where he was later promoted to supervisor. He also worked primarily as a maintenance and cleaner, always bringing warmth and humour to those around him.
Philip’s favorite pastime was driving, and he found peace on the open road. He also deeply loved animals and shared a special bond with his pets over the years. He was a devoted pet parent to his beloved dogs Mitzi, Rocky, and Mya, each of whom brought him endless joy and companionship. Whether it was taking them for long drives, spoiling them with treats, or simply enjoying their company at home, his dogs were truly part of his family. His cat, Mickey, held a special place in his heart, always curled up nearby to offer comfort and company. Philip found great solace in the unconditional love of his furry companions, and now he is at peace, reunited with them once again.
As per his wishes, no service will be held at this time. A private family gathering will take place in late spring or early summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the SPCA.
Philip will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He may be gone, but his laughter and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
