March 13, 1951 – January 16, 2023
Rosa Panisales Burdman died tragically but peacefully while surrounded by loving family on January 16, 2023, at Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital. She was 71. Rosa, to many, "Rose", was born in the Philippines, then emigrated to Hong Kong, and later made her home and zest-filled life with her beloved husband Ronald "RB" in Toronto. Oftentimes trying to define a person at a time such as this is difficult, that notwithstanding here are a few words that might best help understand the Rose of RB's life, the one that made his life smell so sweet. Rosa was first and foremost an attentive, caring wife, foil, and traveling companion to RB whose spirited and energetic joie de vivre kept them both young and engaged, even if sometimes at odds as to the correct way to make a bagel with lox and cream cheese. Rosa will be dearly missed by her many family and dear friends, none more than Uncle "Big Don" Altman who will miss his many trips to Costco with Rose and even more so the "Dinner and a Ballgame" nights with RB and Rosa, which will not be the same without her cheering the Blue Jays and Raptors on while feeding her fellows with dinner and sweets. Rosa's passion for life, playful nature, delight in fun and laughter, and her just do it attitude will be sorely missed by her friends and family at Sobey's, in the Philippines, Toronto, and many faraway places. The Toronto Raptors may not yet know it, but her friends and family are sad to report that the team has lost its most enthusiastic and fervent fan. The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring doctors, nurses, and staff at Sunnybrook Hospitals ICU and Traumatic Brain Injury Unit, with special thanks to Drs. Frederico Angriman, Martin Chapman, and Social Worker Monica Cassin, for their care and kindness to the family throughout this difficult journey. The family requests that any donations offered, be made to Sunnybrook’s Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program for their life-saving work and their continued exemplary patient care as they did for our Dear Rosa.
