Predeceased by her beloved parents, John (Jack) Allan and Margaret Allan (Nee Steward). Shirley loved family and cherished her first cousins, their wives and their families; Namely William (Bill) Smith of Georgetown (deceased) and his wife Sheila; Brian Lyons (Georgetown); Greg Lyons (Oakville) and his wife Deb Nield-Lyons. Special family members Mona and Stuart Murray (both deceased), along with their children, James (deceased) and Janine and their families, all held an important place in Shirley’s heart too.
To know Shirley was to love Shirley. She was always the family cheerleader, historian and caretaker; always there when you needed her. She loved to travel and visited Great Britain often as a twosome with her mother and sometimes as a foursome with her friend Louise and both mothers. She made wonderful memories and lifelong friendships wherever she went, be it at home, at work (Paul Revere Insurance) in Toronto, or abroad.
Our family’s thanks go out to the Millwood staff for their care and support of Shirley for the last four years- with our special thanks to Tatyana, for her many kindnesses during those four years as well. Also our heartfelt thank you to staff at Scarborough General Hospital as they worked tirelessly, over the challenging last two months, to provide a comprehensive treatment plan for Shirley as well as ongoing support for family members. Thanks also to Janelle Mason (SGH – The Tower) for her social service expertise, support and kindness.
With friendships too numerous to mention, exceptions must be made for: Louise Dickinson, Jane Willcox, Barbara Dillon, Fran Barnes, Gerda Fayers, Dolores Lamb, Jean Ness and Jean Trory (deceased) for their stellar support, unconditional love and loyal friendship for Shirley over these many years. She loved you all so much!
In honouring Shirley’s request for no flowers please, donations to Alzheimer Society or to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated on Shirley’s behalf.
Services for Shirley will take place on Thursday August 21, 2025 at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 222 Ridley Blvd, Toronto, ON. Visitation will be held from 10:00-10:30 am and her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am. Shirley will be laid to rest beside her parents at Prospect Cemetery, 1450 St. Clair Ave West, Toronto, ON.
