Tina will be warmly remembered by her devoted husband Dennis, her loving daughters Maria (Eric) and Evelina (Bil), and her beloved sisters Katerina, Xeni, and Veta.
Tina was born on the idyllic island of Naxos, Greece. Even as a young woman, she always put others before herself, leaving school after grade seven so she could work to help her younger siblings financially. When the opportunity to emigrate to Canada came up, she took it - first working as an au pair and later as a hairdresser – and eventually sponsored her beloved sisters Kalitsa and Katerina to join her. She met another hardworking Greek from the island of Zakynthos, Dionisios (Dennis), and they married and started a family. Through hard work and sacrifices they were able to buy their first home in Toronto.
Known for her generosity, Tina’s heart was open to friends and strangers alike. She would do anything for her children and provided them with opportunities she could only dream of as a young girl in Greece. No expense was ever spared for advancing their education. She spent hours on the road, driving her girls from dance lessons to piano, swimming, skating, Greek school. Tina had a beautiful singing voice and was innately musical, and she took great pride in her daughters’ pursuits of their musical dreams.
For her nieces and nephews, Tina was the ‘fun’ aunt. Trips to the CNE, birthday parties, attending the Santa Claus parade, epic Christmas celebrations with gifts galore and her over-the-top goofiness always delighted them.
Tina loved entertaining. She threw gala Sweet Sixteen parties for her daughters that are still remembered by those who attended. Her hospitality was appreciated by all who crossed the threshold of her home, of which she was extremely proud.
Tina loved the sun and was able to enjoy decades of travelling to Clearwater Beach, Florida, where she and Dennis owned a lovely home, whose doors were open to all.
Her resilience was in inverse proportion to her petite stature; she faced breast cancer at the age of 39 and recovered from mini strokes, brain bleeds and falls like a lioness. The loss of her beloved sister Kalitsa in 2013 was a huge blow to Tina, and she never fully recovered. Her deep faith in God carried her through the challenging times of her life.
Tina cared about everything in the world and didn’t hesitate to encourage people to do the right things, as she saw them. She did her best to impress her points of view on everyone she met and believed in always being active and never resting when something could be done to make this world a better place. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
