

Barbara Ann Armstrong, age 77, of Flint, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the mid-afternoon hours of Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Waterton Plaza. Barbara was born on July 16, 1936 in Rosalie, Nebraska to Claus W. and Bessie Pycha Eicke; they preceded her in death. She graduated from Walthill High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska. Barbara married the love of her life and best friend, Charles E. Armstrong on June 23, 1956 in Bainbridge, Georgia and together they spent the next 56 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories. Barbara was a member of Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler. She was also a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi International Sorority and a lifetime member of Job’s Daughters. Barbara was named to the “Outstanding Women of America” in 1972 and helped found the “Community Food Pantry” in Noonday, Texas in 1995. Barbara believed in miracles as she believed she experienced many herself. She believed in the power of prayer and intercessory prayer. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who had a heart of gold and caring touch that will be missed by all who knew her.
Barbara is survived by husband, Charles E. Armstrong of Flint; daughters, Pamela Jo Holland, and husband Bryon, Jr., of Anna, TX and Jolene Dee Armstrong of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Rachel Holland, Byron M. Holland III, Elizabeth Holland, John Charles Holland, and Andrew C. Holland; one sister, Frances L. Yelinek of Omaha, NE; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and very special friends.
A memorial service for Barbara Armstrong will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday morning, at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with William Armstrong, Andrew Holland, Byron Holland, Jr., Byron Holland III, John Holland, and William Seidlitz serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 P.M., Wednesday evening at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Barbara asked that donations be made to Marvin United Methodist Church, 300 W. Erwin St, Tyler, TX 75702 or to the Community Food Pantry in Flint P.O. Box 2185 Flint, TX 75762.
