She loved the small town farm she lived in with her parents and her sister. She also loved to go to the community center with her family to listen to music and dance. Betty Jo attended a one-room schoolhouse. After completing school, she moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While managing an apartment complex there, she met Karr Collins. Betty Jo and Karr married and moved with her daughter to Dallas, Texas, and then in 1975 they all three moved to Tyler, Texas. Betty Jo was a great seamstress, she could see a blouse she liked and would sit on the floor and make a pattern out of newspaper and then make the blouse. She always loved bright colors. She played bridge and mahjong and attended the Shiloh Church of Christ. Betty Jo was a homemaker and she and Karr worked hard together. After Karr Collins passed away she met Leroy Winters and the two of them traveled together and made many memories. They rode motorcycles thru Europe, New Zealand and Mexico. Leroy and Betty Jo along with Dick Mann started the ISDT Reunion Motorcycle Ride in Arkansas. They also traveled thru the United States in Leroy’s RV with the motorcycle in the back visiting different places and making many friends along the way.
Betty Jo lived the last eight years at Prestige Estates in Tyler Texas. Her smile made other people smile and she was always the champion speller in the spelling challenges once a week. She was one that did not need spell check.
Betty Jo Collins was 83 when she passed away on June 22, 2018 at Hospice of East Texas. She leaves behind family and friends that will miss her.
