Betty Jo Hargrave

A graveside service for Betty Jo Vaughan Hargrave, 92, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Betty passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at her residence.

Betty was born on Feb. 13, 1925, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to William Haywood and Mary Johannah Vaughan. She met Robert (Bob) Hargrave while both were students at the University of Oklahoma, where Bob received his degree in Pharmacy and Betty received a Bachelor of Arts degree. They married December 22, 1946 and in 1952 moved to Tyler. Betty taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Tyler where she and Bob were members for more than fifty years. Betty was active in the community having been a past president of the Tyler Women’s Forum. Upon Bob’s death, Betty relocated to Tulsa to be near her son Robert.

Betty is survived by her daughter Karen Hargrave; sons Robert Hargrave Jr. and his wife Peer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Thomas Hargrave and wife Cindy of Longwood, Florida; grandchildren Bronwyn Benito, Angharad Vaughan, Sutinya Redman, Robert Hargrave III, Aliya Hargrave, Mariena Hargrave, Courtney Hargrave, Beck Hargrave; and nine great-grandchildren.
