

Services for Betty G. Short are scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Luckenbach officiating. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Mausoleum under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mrs. Short passed away December 20, 2010 at the Providence Park Nursing Home where she had been a resident for over two years.
She was born on March 6, 1921, in Hugo, Oklahoma, the daughter of Russell Frank and Ackie Fuller Grafford. She attended Hugo public schools, graduating from Hugo High School in 1938. She attended Frank Phillips College in Borger and Musical Arts Conservatory in Amarillo where she was a vocal music major. She served as a mezzo-soprano soloist for many years with church choirs and musical organizations and continued voice study with private coaches during her years as an executive secretary in the fields of law, construction and oil. She was a Senior Executive Secretary with Phillips Petroleum Company, Bartlesville, OK at the time of her marriage to Graham H. Short in 1951.
Mrs. Short served as a volunteer and sponsor with the Girl Scouts, hospital auxiliary, Red Cross and various civic and social clubs.
She and her husband moved to Tyler in 1986 where she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving in Lois Guild, BCW and Women’s Bible Class. She was also a member of Women’s Forum, the Newcomer’s Club and bridge clubs.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lynne Short of Tyler; granddaughter, Sandra Lynne Short and great grandson, Trey Anderson of Sherman; grandson, John G. Short, Jr. and wife Hope Short, M.D.; grandson, Kevin A. Short M.D. and wife Holly and grandson Stephen C. Short and wife Belinda all of Tyler; grandchildren, Hampton Short, Andrew Short, Emma Short and John Short III all of Tyler; nephew, Charles Shelton and wife Marty of Farmersville; nephew Larry Shelton of Tulsa, OK; the Rev. Frank Doenges of Coalton, OH; nieces Judy Bliss of Tyler, Beth Chilcott and husband Jeff of Huntington Beach, CA, Susan Finck and husband Rick of Melbourne, FL, Gail Canty and husband, John of Shreveport, LA, Anne Grafford of Corpus Christi and nephew, Geoff Grafford and wife Cindi of Edmond, OK.
Pallbearers are Kevin A. Short, M.D., Stephen C. Short, Timothy F. Bliss, Bobby Young, John T. Payne and Jesse Quinney, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 29th at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
