

Bobby Gerald Dykes, age 73, of Lindale, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 09, 2014 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Bobby was born on August 26, 1940 to the late Thomas Andrew and Veda Durham Dykes. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Bobby married the love of his life and best friend, Wydonia Lee Mitchum, on June 21, 1968 in Tyler. Together they spent the next 45 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories.
Bobby was a member of Park Heights Assembly of God and a former member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Before he became sick, Bobby loved to fish and garden. He enjoyed history and the military, especially ships and airplanes. He was an outstanding cook and could always make a joke to brighten up anyone’s day. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Wydonia; daughters, Kelly Cox, and husband Craig, of Canton, TX, Dusti Mason of Lindale, and Randi Harden, and husband Jonathan, of Tyler; grandchildren, Shelby Cox, Cameron Cox, Jacy Harden, and Jonah Harden; brothers, Allen Dykes, and wife Shirley, of Victoria, TX and Clyde Dykes of Bonham, TX; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Dykes, and one sister, Betty Ann Johnson.
Services for Bobby Gerald Dykes will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 13, 2014 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with James Eitson officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M., Monday afternoon, at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove, TX with Jonathan Harden, Craig Cox, Cameron Cox, Jimmy Mitchum, Randal Mitchum, and Allen Ray Dykes serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 P.M., Sunday afternoon, at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
