Charles Edward Davis

The man, the myth, the legend

Charles Edward Davis, 60, passed away on Tuesday, August 18th. He was born June 24, 1966, in Jacksonville, Texas, to Herbert and Martha Davis.

Charles grew up in Cayuga, where he was actively involved in FFA (Future Farmers of America), building a foundation of hard work and community involvement. He graduated from Cayuga High School, where he was proud to have finished 4th in his class of 28, though he would be the first to joke that didn’t quite make him top 10%.

He went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he became a proud Aggie for life; his love for Aggieland and all things maroon and white never wavering.

Charles split his time between his main residence in Cypress and the farm he loved in Troup. A dedicated rancher and passionate golfer, Charles found joy in the simple things – working his cows, perfecting his swing, and most importantly, spending time with family. He took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren about golf and life, sharing both his knowledge and love of the game. As a member of the Rusk County Go Texan Committee BBQ Cookoff team, Charles was committed to giving back to his community, helping to fund scholarships for local youth. Whether on the fairway or at the farm, Charles was the most content surrounded by those he loved.

Throughout his career, Charles worked at Hines for many years as a leader in the Conceptual Construction Group, bringing his vision and expertise to significant projects around the world.

Charles lived by his personal motto: “Always walk with purpose,” which defined everything he did, from his work to his family to his community service. Those who knew him best will remember not just his accomplishments, but the intentional way he lived his life.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Melony Davis; his three children, Braden (Whitney) Thomas, Samantha (Philip) Ward, and Dillon (Christine) Thomas; five grandchildren, Charles, Lorelai, Hannah, Margaret, and Riley; his parents, Herbert and Martha Davis; and his siblings, Debra (Bill) Syptak, Leroy (LaJean) Davis, Herbert Eland Davis, and Alicia (Roy) Rauch; as well as many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin Edward Ward.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 21st, 1-2 pm, with a funeral service following immediately after at 2 pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home. An additional memorial service will be held at Tomball Methodist Church on Saturday, August 29th with visitation at 1 pm and the service at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Texas A&M Association of Former Students, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840.
