

Services for Charles L Sumpter, 81, of Tyler are scheduled for Saturday June 17, 2023 at 10:00am at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Dennard officiating. Burial will follow at the Cathedral of the Pines Cemetery with Military Honors.
Leon went to be with his lord and savior on June 11, 2023, at home in Tyler surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 15, 1942 in Mehan, Ok to the late James Calip Sumpter and Pearl Louise Thurman Sumpter of Oklahoma. Leon was a mechanic for Otasco and WalMart, loving father of 5 and loved by all that knew him. Leon never knew a stranger and was always making jokes to make people laugh. He was a loving husband, father, and a dear friend to all. He loved his country and fought for it joining the US Army March 24, 1965. He served in Vietnam and in Germany before his Honorable Discharge February 16, 1967. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 yrs Martha Sumpter of Tyler; daughter, Sondra Ann of Oklahoma; brothers, TJ Sumpter of Oklahoma; Bill Sumpter of Oklahoma; brother, Gerald Sumpter of Oklahoma; sister, Betty Craft of Oklahoma.
He is survived by brother, Delbert Sumpter and wife LouAnn Sumpter of Oklahoma; sister, Sally Minshall of Oklahoma; daughters, Carla Moncrief and her husband Rick of Houston; Carin Spradlin and her husband Robert of Bullard; son, Trey Chance and his wife Vicki of Lindale; daughter, Mary Stokes and her husband David of Tyler; grandchildren, Mandi Cassens, Mark Moncrief, Eric Spradlin, LeAnne Shepherd, Casey Chance, Katie Crowell, and Emily Terrell; great-grandchildren, Colton and Kylie Cassens, Mason, Abigail and Tyler Moncrief, Ethan and Nathaniel (Tate) Spradlin, Noah, Matthew, and Nicholas (Nic) Shepherd, Owen, Wylder, Bennon (Benny), and Quinn Crowell.
Pallbearers will be Trey Chance, Mark Moncrief, Brian Cassens, Alvin Huskey, Mike Fortner, Bryan O’Driscoll, Erich Isayev and Cris Crowell. Honorary pallbearer, Dewayne Norris. Special thanks to Dee Battee, Brittany Battee, and Carla Pettigrew for their loving care of our daddy, grandfather, and loving husband.
