Clarence Milton “Dick” Murphy, Jr., age 75, of Tyler, passed away in the mid-afternoon hours of Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. Dick was born on January 7, 1938 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Clarence Milton, Sr. and Martha Ford Murphy. Dick proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He graduated from what is now West Texas A&M University with a degree in Marketing. Dick married Susan Paxton at their home in Tyler on November 12, 2005; she survives. Dick was a member of Rose Heights Church in Tyler, the Masonic Lodge, and Al-anon. Those who knew Dick will remember him for his giving spirit and ability to fix anything. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Dick is survived by his wife, Susan Paxton; one daughter, Shannon Alford and husband Larry; one step-son, Rodger Paxton and wife Janet, one step-daughter, Andrea Paxton, one brother, Phillip Murphy; three grandchildren, Corey Alford, Melissa Murphy, and Nicole Crotzer; and by one great-grandson, Adrian Crotzer.
Services for Clarence “Dick” Murphy, Jr. will be held at 3:00 P.M., January 8, 2014 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with David Hickey officiating. Burial will follow at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with Wendell Labat, Robbie Abillama, Tony Crotzer and Barry Fielder serving as pallbearers and Larry Alford, Cory Alford and Manny Pace serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 P.M., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
