David is survived by his sisters, Barbara Duncan Brown and Karen Hatch and her husband, Gordon. He was also a devoted uncle to many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Dwight and Edith Amyx Porter, brother John D. Porter Jr., and sister Linda Magee.
David had a strong career in marketing and advertising, including work with Stars and Stripes in Europe, the Los Angeles Air Force Base and Cannon Air Force Base. He also owned his own agency, The Marketing Edge, in Tyler. His many hobbies included clowning, photography, travel, trekking, and photography. He graduated from the University of Texas.
He was also completely devoted to his second family, the Tyler High class of 1956 and worked diligently to keep them close together.
His absence leaves a profound void in our family, but his sentimental, generous and loving spirit and the stories we shared will live on forever.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation gathering at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E 1st St, Tyler, Texas, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A "Celebration of Life" Service will follow at 11:00 am. A reception will follow services. Please wear comfortable clothes.
