

Services for Dr. David Freeman Norris, 73, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darryle Dunks officiating. Burial is in Cathedral in the Pines. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Dr. Norris passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Homeplace Hospice. He was born on October 14, 1939 in Celina, Texas to the late Joe and Myrtle Freeman Norris.
He was a graduate of Celina High School in 1957. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, then graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1965. He served his internship at East Town Osteopathic Hospital in Dallas.
Dr, Norris was a member of the American Osteopathic Medical Association, Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, Texas Medical Association and Smith County Medical Association. He served as an officer and on the Board of numerous professional medical associations in Tyler. He was also a member of the Tyler Civitan Club serving as president and was the recipient of Outstanding President Award and Who’s Who in Texas in 1973-74.
He served on the professional staff of Doctors Memorial Hospital in Tyler from 1970 – 2000 and as a family practice physician during this time. Following that he served as a physician at Rusk State Hospital from 2001-2008.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Tommie Joe Norris.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail Norris; daughter, Kara Lynn Spitz son, David B. Norris and wife, Jackie and grand children, Sarah Spitz, Stacey Spitz, Zachary Norris and Molly Norris. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Norris and wife, Armetha, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
