Eleanor Hemby Jackson Birdwell passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at the age of 97. She was born March 12, 1922 in Burkburnett, Texas to John Fletcher Jackson and Faye Hemby Jackson. She moved to Angus, Texas at an early age and on to Brownsboro in 1935. She graduated from high school at age 17. She moved to Tyler to work at Dickinson Jewelry for many years before going to work at Texas Power and Light, where she worked until she retired in 1983.
She married Cone Birdwell in June 1944. They were world travelers going to many countries and all across the U. S. A.
They were members at West Erwin Church of Christ for many years and Omen Road, which is now University Church of Christ. She taught Bible classes at West Erwin and at University. She and her husband were also members and very active in the Civitan Club.
She was preceeded in death by her husband in 1992, her parents, a brother, John Jackson, and a sister, Evelyn Potter.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret Nell Melton and husband Don of Abilene. Nephews and nieces also surviving her are Greg Melton and wife D'Anne, Teri Marrow and husband Jerry, Steve Potter and wife Kathy, Sandy Faulkner and husband Mikel, Debbie Beam and husband Chet, Jeff Jackson, and Joni Jackson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 29, 6:00-7:30 P.M. at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Wednesday, October 30, 10 A.M. in the Edom Cemetery with Greg Melton officiating.
