

Funeral services for Gertrude Black, 90, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:30 P.M., Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Chaplain Elwood Stetson officiating. She passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
Gertrude was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, on October 13, 1923 to Ira James and Jean Hernandez Brittain. She later moved to Tyler and attended Tyler High School.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a past PTA president at Pine Springs Elementary School. Gertrude also did volunteer work for the March of Dimes and at Mother Frances Hospital. Her hobbies included fishing, camping and working in her flower beds. She was known by “Nanny” to her family.
Gertrude is survived by daughter, Carol Swanson and husband, Jack of Tyler; son, Roy E. Barner, Jr. of Rowlett; granddaughters, Teresa Wilkins and husband, Andy of Blossom and Melissa Espinosa and husband, Manny of Carthage; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both her husbands, Roy E. Barner, Sr. and Pryor Black.
The family would like to give special thanks to The Hospice of East Texas, Chaplain Elwood Stetson, Jelaine, LaQuita, Vernell and volunteer, Kathy McCabe for their excellent care, and also First Baptist Church Outreach Ministry, Charlotte Latham, Azalea Place Nursing and Rehab, Tyler and special friend, Jo Anne McMeans.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M., at the funeral home.
