

Harold Lloyd Phillips, Sr., age 78, of Tyler, went to be his Lord in the late afternoon hours of Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Hospice Homeplace in Tyler, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 28, 1933 in Flint, Texas to Charlie F. and Grace Jacobs Phillips; they preceded him death. Harold proudly served his country in the United States Army. Before he left for the Army, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Vickery, and together they spent the next 58 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories. Harold owned and operated Phillips Grocery in Tyler for over 50 years. He also owned Phillips Storage and had numerous rental properties throughout the community. When he wasn’t working, he would often be found at Central Baptist Church in Tyler where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and being a part of the children’s ministry in any way he was needed. Harold also had a love for antique cars but those who knew him best will remember his unending love for his wife and family.
Harold is survived by wife Shirley; children, Ann McCoy, Anthony W. Phillips, and wife Dahlene, all of Tyler, Janice Smith of the Woodlands, TX, and Harold Lloyd Phillips, Jr. (Bubba) of Tyler; grandchildren, Carrie McCoy, and husband Shane, Seth Phillips, Amanda Blundell, and husband Michael, Randy Strickland, and wife Angela and Wesley Smith; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Phillips, and wife Jean, of Tyler; and by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Cecil Phillips, James Donald Phillips, Charles Phillips, Jr., Earl Phillips, Billy Phillips, and Rev. Roger Phillips; and by sisters, Pauline Parker and Lillian Chance.
Services for Mr. Phillips will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Vickery and Rev. Kim Beckham officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Randy Strickland, Seth Phillips, Wesley Smith, Michael Blundell, Shane McCoy, and Tony Stegall serving as pallbearers. James Weaver, Ray Cleveland, Bill Carroll, and Phil Kuhler are honored as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home.
