Memorial services for Harriett Harris Hays, 80, of Tyler are scheduled for 11:00am, Friday, July 25, 2014 at Marvin United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Stephanie Hughes and Rev. Allison Thompson officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hays passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in Tyler with her family at her side.
She was born on August 9, 1933 in Tyler to the late George Lorner and Annie Belle Castle Harris. She graduated from Tyler High School and attended Southern Methodist University and University of Texas in Austin. She married her beloved husband, James R. “Jim” Hays on December 23, 1955. She was a lifelong member of Marvin United Methodist Church and a member of the Marion Wilcox Junior Garden Club, Culta Mea Literary Club and the Chi Omega sorority. Her greatest joy was entertaining and being with family and friends. She was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to the love of her family and volunteer work.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Harris McCauley.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Hays of Tyler; daughter and son-in-law, Holly Hays and Robert L. Wilhelm of Plano; son and daughter-in-law, Brian James and Denise Ann Hays of Cypress; grandchildren, Lacey Hope Callaway and husband Colby, and Dillon Reed Hays and a great granddaughter, Carli Hope Callaway.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Marvin United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
