April 26,1935 -October 5,2025
On early Sunday morning, her favorite day of the week, Janice gently took flight with the angels to her eternal home in heaven, at the age of 90. She lived fully assured through the scripture Philippians 4:13, that she could do all things through Christ who strengthened her. Every day at 3:16 in the afternoon , her phone alarm would sound—not out of duty, but devotion. It was her sacred time to pray, to lift others up, and to draw strength from the One who sustained her.
In the early years of her life, Janice found joy in the great outdoors—she loved camping, water skiing, and snow skiing. She had a natural enthusiasm for adventure and togetherness. One of her greatest pleasures was hosting family and friends, often gathering everyone for cookouts filled with laughter, good food, and lasting memories.
Throughout her life she was blessed with the gift of cultivating and nurturing friendships with everyone she crossed paths with.
Janice was well known for her homemade chocolate pies, which she lovingly delivered to those who were sick, welcoming a new baby, or grieving a loss. It was her way of showing care—through comfort and kindness, one pie at a time.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Hardaway; her daughter, Tammy Miller; her son, Rick Hardaway; her parents, Oliver and Faye Holland; and two sisters, Marva Hardaway and LaFaye Slay.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Montandon, and her husband, Paul, of Leesburg, Georgia.
Janice also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Tim Hardaway (wife, Mandy), Brandy Scheid (husband, Ben), Brooke Rinkle (husband, Paul), Brittney Greer (husband, Earl), and Teri Willett (husband, Bill).
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Audrey, James, Rachel, Christine, Drake, Faith, Chessie, Hunter, and Earl Jr.
She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family in North Carolina, including: Cynthia “Sissy” Watkins, Vince Watkins, Krystal Arwood (husband, Trent, and their daughters Brayleigh and Everleigh), Paul Watkins (wife, Jennifer, and their son Jenson), and Samuel Watkins.
In addition to her family, Janice’s life was richly blessed by the love of friends—both near and far—all of whom she held close to her heart.
A visitation for Janice will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 East First Street, Tyler, TX 75701. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM at West Erwin Church of Christ, 420 W Erwin St Suite A, Suite A, Tyler, TX 75702.
Janice will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Burial Park, Waxahachie, TX along with her husband, daughter and son.
