

Jewel Irene Murphrey of Tyler, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 26 at the age of 86. Born on September 27, 1935 in Hawley TX, her youngest years were spent in Hawley. The family moved to Tyler, TX, now Chapel Hill when she was 12 years of age. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1954. Upon marrying her husband James she spent the majority of their marriage as a homemaker with only brief stints working outside of the home. She and James were active members of Bethel Baptist church for many years.
Jewel is preceded in death by her husband James Alton Murphrey, her parents Ernest and Irene Miles her three brothers Larry, Gene and Gerald Miles and nephew , Kenneth Miles.
She is survived by her sister Marjorie Hall of Whitehouse TX, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Jewel was an avid doll collector and spent many years making and selling crafts as a hobby. She also acted as caretaker for her mother and other family as needed over the years.
The family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas for the care and compassion they showed Jewel in her final days. They would also like to extend gratitude to Kristen, her hairstylist, for being a special friend to her the past few years. Thank you as well to the ladies of Bethel Baptist church for serving the family during this time.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial service at Bascom Cemetery, 12489 FM 848, Tyler, TX 75707 on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 2 PM.
